Cladding At Its Best

Port Dickson : TNB has recently launched PDI in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, a state-of-the-art glimpse of the future. It's the longest project commissioned by TNB to strengthen the power supply reliablity to the Southern Region. Operating the latest gas turbine combined cycle, the station optimises its output while cutting down on emissions by recycling its hot gas discharge. This method means that the station is 55.9% efficient compared with the 30.1% efficiency of the older station it replaced.
The station was built at a cost of over RM1 billion. It was delivered and began operations on schedule. PDI is the first phase (PD2 is scheduled to be operating before 2010) of a multi-billion ringgint rehabilitation project of Tuanku Jaafar Power Station and will contribute power to the entire Southern region as well as to the Klang Valley. The old TJP Station operated for 27 years and helped in the development of the entire are. The new facilities are expected to add further support to the entire Southern Region.
With rising fuel costs and gas emission concerns, the PD power plants will make a considerable impact to lowering operating costs and alleviating pollution levels.
Fact File
- PDI will generate a maximum energy output of 735 Megawatts, that enough power to supply around 700,000 homes.
- This mega plant will be staffed by around 150 tp 160 personnel.
- The increased capacity is situated close to the 'load centre' and its power contribution will strenghten the entire Southern and Central systems.
- 55.9% efficiency means the plant burns nearly harlf as much fuel as older plants to generate the same amount of electricity, thus saving fuel and reducing costs.
- Emissions from PDI have been cut from 50-70 parts per million of the older style power plants to less than 25 parts per million.
- With less than half the emissions and double the efficiencty. PDI is the region's most environmentally friendly power plant.
